I was born in Houston, TX and raised in West Texas in a small town (Brownfield) outside of Lubbock. I attended Texas Tech University and received a B.S. in Education with a Specialization in English. I was then accepted into the Texas Tech University School of Law. After graduating from law school, I moved to Austin in 1991. While in Austin, I worked for the Texas Commission on Human Rights and as an administrative law judge with the Texas Employment Commission. In 1993, I married my husband, Jerome, and moved to Victoria, TX where we lived for 17 years. While in Victoria, I worked as the municipal prosecutor, as an attorney for legal aid, and in private practice. I earned a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2011.
My family relocated to Dripping Springs in 2010. While in Dripping Springs, I have worked as a mental health professional and a family law attorney. I enjoy staying involved in the community and volunteer my time to work with Dripping Springs High School students and the Dripping Springs Lions Club. I am a member of the San Marcos Rotary Club.
I believe that judges have an important role to play in our society. Judges have the opportunity to punish or to reform in our current system and often choose the former over the latter. My goal is to provide a courtroom environment in which individuals feel heard and have the opportunity to leave the courtroom with a sense of purpose and hope. Many of the criminal cases filed in County Courts at Law involve individuals with mental health and alcohol and drug issues. I want to establish programs that address mental health and substance abuse so that individuals struggling with these issues can get the help they need to lead more productive lives while we lessen the taxpayer costs associated with these cases.
I continue to work on improving access to resources that aid individuals who have mental health and substance abuse issues.
I am currently acting as the judge of this court and want to continue my work in serving the people of Hays county.
